Fast Retailing Supply Chain Ethics Review
Problem
definition
Fast
Retailing, listed in Tokyo and Hong Kong, faces increasing expectations from
investors and consumers to match its peers in the management of supply chain
ethics. Recently, a major European investor is starting to push for Fast
Retailing to join the UK-based Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI). Amongst its
brand members are peers such as H&M and Inditex (holding company of Zara).

Is
Fast Retailing ready to join the ETI?

How
does Fast Retailing compare with leading peers in supply chain ethics and
transparency?

What
are the pros and cons of ETI?

How
can Fast Retailing further improve oversight on supply chain ethics, with or
without joining ETI?
Benchmarking
Before
tackling the above questions, we will undertake an exercise to benchmark Fast
Retailing with two peers:
1.
H&M
(ETI Member)
2.
Nike
(non-ETI Member)
In the
following table, we compare the presence/ absence of relevant policies and
support programmes, and the depth of execution. The objective is to identify
any notable gaps between Fast Retailing and the two peers.
