Purpose:
The purpose of this assessment task is to conduct a 15-minute interview (phone / zoom) with a
practicing counselor or psychotherapist to understand how they navigate the complex relationship
between ethics and the law, including common legal concerns. (Done)
After the interview, students write a
2000-word reflective essay describing the interviewee’s relations hip between ethics and the law. This reflective essay requires integration of the interviewee’s responses with contemporary evidence-based research literature.
Process:
In this reflective essay, students describe the interviewee’s relationship between ethics and the
law and the significant points that illustrated the ways this complex relationship was navigated by
the practicing counsellor.
Students critically reflect on their personal thoughts and feelings towards these responses and the
implications these have on self as a counsellor- in training and on future practice.
With these reflections, students evaluate and synthesize their personal resonances and potential
challenges posed in response to the interview and articulate their hopes for future ethical
practice.
Throughout the essay students will need to integrate interviewee responses with contemporary
evidence-based research literature.
